Wildlife & Rodent Removal New Orleans Tip of the Month: Bat Exterminator
Bats often nest in dark places inside your home. They are most frequently found inside the attic or chimney. They are not in the habit of nesting inside your home. If there is a bat in your home it should not be too hard to get rid of. If you leave a door or a window open, they should leave by themselves. They want to be there even less than you want them there. People frequently complain about an infestation of bats in attics or buildings. Bats are extremely hard to get rid of and it is virtually impossible to do so yourself. Wildlife relocation companies have years of experience and will be able to make the process as painless as possible.
Extermination
There are no pesticides on the market that are targeted specifically at bats. In fact, if you are able to find a company that will exterminate the bats living on your premises they are probably operating illegally.
Some companies will come and tent your home, meaning they will spray toxic gas inside the whole building. This is as harmful to people as it is to animals. It will not only kill the bats but also everything else that is unfortunate enough to be caught up in it. As it is not designed specifically for bats, there is also a chance that it will not kill them all.
More good than bad?
Bats might be more valuable than you give them credit for. They eat thousands of insects every day and can seriously decrease the mosquito population in your home. They do not hold a threat to your safety, but their feces could make you sick. It is better to seek a humane way to get rid of them.
Poisoning bats
Bats are protected by various laws and poisoning them could land you in heaps of trouble. It is also unsafe to poison any sort of animal. As previously stated, there is not poison available that I specifically targeted at bats. Thus, the available pesticides will not always kill them. Apart from being incredibly cruel, you will now be stuck with a house full of suffering bats. They can crawl into spaces that you cannot reach and will die in your walls. You will be left with decomposing bat carcasses in your home. This is extremely unsanitary and extremely harmful to your health.
Getting rid of bats in your home
The best way to get rid of bats is to seal up the points that they are using to enter. Close all entryways, leaving only the main one open. You can install an exclusion funnel that will allow them to leave but will not allow them to re-enter. Once all of the bats have escaped you can close off the last remaining entry point. You will need to disinfect the area and ensure that no bat droppings or urine are left behind.
